Backup Programs Can Help Prevent Disaster
The first decision to be made is whether or not to use freeware or a paid software program. This may depend on the amount of data to be backed up or the level of importance placed on that information. It goes without saying that the higher level of security desired is more likely to be found in a paid backup program. There are also many data storage sites that offer a remote server storage location complete with software.
Freeware data backup is easy to access and install and may just be what you are looking for. However, it's important to keep in mind that many freeware programs also have a paid alternate. If a problem should arise with the program the paid members will always be given priority so freeware users may find themselves waiting for assistance. Software programs offering both free and paid services often supply only the most basic of options to freeware users. In the case of extremely valuable data a paid program is recommended for maximum security.
Recent software reviews indicate which programs are currently the best on the market or the most recommended. Two programs ranked as Windows highest performing backup software. The best overall was the Genie Backup Manager. High speed performance paired with a full menu of features provides an updated backup program that will meet the standard of users. A close runner up was the NTI BackUpNow! software program. Though it was praised for its interface design, there were also a number of negatives involved including the difficult location pinpointing of certain files like email.
Three other programs recently made the highly recommended list. NovaBackup shows impressive capabilities offering backup services for all physical destination drives as well as a virus scan. Though it is equipped with a wizard for the new user, it is difficult to get the program to do all desired functions with the wizard. This program may be better suited to the advanced user. A simple backup program is Handy Backup. Though it appears easy to use some of the features are not obvious and take some finding. This software does have its restrictions but compensates by backing up PST and ICQ files that would otherwise not necessarily get backed up. The final program on the list of the top five is Double Image. Reviews state that this software can be downright complicated but upon getting past the interface actually performs really well. Backup program reviews go into enough detail to provide an educated decision to match personal experience and data storage needs. Most programs tend to fall into the same price average and choice should not be based primarily on that. A backup program's experience is important to factor in with the data storage requirements. Spending the time now to carefully scrutinize each available program option may save valuable time and money in the future.
